Community Card Poker - Texas Holdem & Omaha
Community card poker is a poker game where players are dealt a combination of face down cards and with "community cards" that all players "share" and where each player can combine their hole cards with the community cards to make the best poker hand. Texas Hold 'em and Omaha are the two most popular community card poker variant.
The Rules
Before the first hand is dealt the dealer position is drawn and the player left of the dealer will have to make an obligatory bet called the small blind and the player to the left of the small blind will have to make an obligatory bet which is normally the double of the small blind.
When the blinds have been paid each player in community poker games are initially dealt a number of cards face down also called hole cards. In Texas Holdem each player receives 2 cards face down and in Omaha each player received 4 cards face down.
After receiving the hole cards the first betting round starts where the player to the left to the big blind is the first player to act and can either call the big blind or raise (the size of the raise depends on the type of game – limit, pot limit or no limit).
Thereafter 3 community cards also called the flop are shown in the middle of the poker table and the player left to the dealer is the first to act. After this betting round a forth community card is shown called the turn and the betting continues like after the flop. The last community card called the river is thereafter shown and a new betting round again with the player left to the dealer as the first to act.
If there are more than one player left after the last betting round it is time to the show down where the player with the best combination between the whole cards and the community cards win. There are though some restriction for example in Omaha the players can only use two of their four whole cards to make the best hand combination.
