Draw Poker

Draw Poker is a variation of the Poker card game where every player playing is dealt a whole hand before the first round of betting. After that first betting round, the players "develop" their hand by replacing cards and the goal is to make the best five-card hand after the draw.

Five Card Draw Poker is properly the most well known poker game amongst the general public and normally the first poker game most people learn to play although it is not very popular online. There exist a number of other draw games as well including Anaconda or Dogbutt.

Five Card Draw Rules

Draw games are played with blinds, just like other poker games where the player to the left of the dealer is the small blind and the player to the left of the small blind is the big blind.

In Five Card Draw Poker each player is dealt five cards face down. The first betting round starts like other poker games with the player to the left of the big blind having 3 options, to fold, call or to raise and continues clockwise until all players have made their bets.

After the first betting round is where draw poker is significantly different from for example Texas Holdem as each player still in the hand have the option to replace one or more of the cards received initially.

When all players have replaced cards a new betting round starts with the player to the left of the dealer still in the hand being the first to either check or raise. The betting round continues clockwise and if more than more player have checked then they reach showdown.

The player with the best five cards wins the hand and the whole pot and if there is more than one player with the same value of hand the pot is equally split amongst them.
